A cooperative of independent grocers, Krasdale Foods formed in 1908. For decades, the stores simply used their own names, but by the 1970s, Krasdale wanted a brand to use on all the stores. The stores were slated to be called K-Town, but legal action from Kmart put an end to that plan. To easily change the name and logo, K-Town became C-Town by removing the left side of the letter K on the logo. Later, the cooperative introduced their Bravo banner in New York and Florida to be used on stores catering to Latin American customers. Beginning in the 1990s, Bravo stores joined Krasdale's roster. Independent grocers now use the Bravo banner from Hartford down to Miami. CTown has the second-most stores across New York City, behind only Key Food in store count, and Krasdale supplies the most independent grocers in the city from their Bronx warehouse.
The following stores in New York City are independent but supplied by Krasdale:
*Fine Fare is affiliated with Retail Grocers Group/General Trading, but one Fine Fare in the Bronx is supplied by Krasdale.
**Food Universe is affiliated with Key Food Stores, but one Food Universe in Brooklyn is supplied by Krasdale.
