The Food Emporium is an iconic New York City brand, having been introduced by local chain Daitch Shopwell in the 1980s. Rival chain A&P acquired The Food Emporium shortly thereafter, focusing its presence on Manhattan and some upscale suburbs.I n A&P's 2015 bankruptcy, Key Food Stores bought the name along with SuperFresh. Independent Key Food owners also bought four of the original Food Emporium stores, but several more have since opened.
