Originating in a suburb of Newark in 1937, Village Super Market is a member of the Wakefern Food cooperative. The chain owns about 40 stores, most of which are under the ShopRite brand in New Jersey. In New York City, Village opened a ShopRite in the Bronx in 2018, acquired Gourmet Garage in 2019, and acquired Fairway Market in 2020. The company is majority-owned by the Sumas family.
